1 July 2015 USD 200 000 to support the newly created Western African Energy Leaders Group: Another strong commitment of Akon Lighting Africa to support the electrification of the continent

Jul 1, 2015

Abidjan, 1 July 2015 – The Akon Lighting Africa initiative will give USD 200 000 dollars to support the newly created Western African Energy Leaders Group (a regional branch of the African Energy Leaders Group). This significant financial commitment has just been made by the three co-founders of Akon Lighting Africa, music star Akon, speaker and international youth leader Thione Niang and entrepreneur Samba Bathily, at the end of the opening meeting of this group which took place in Abidjan, the economic capital of Côte d’Ivoire. This meeting gathered all countries of the western African region. With such platform, western African political and business leaders demonstrate their commitment to ensure as quickly as possible access to energy for all and bring together public and private actors to that end through innovative and integrated approaches.
